I’m happy to announce that ISOLA is being published in Italian by my good friends at BAO Publishing! It’s become a tradition for the artists to draw a version of Cliff, the BAO mascot for the back of the book, so here’s my version…
Judge Dredd – Cover Process
I was asked to do a cover for the new ‘Best of 2000AD’ series featuring Judge Dredd. This is a video of the entire inking and colouring process and there are lots of mis-steps along the way, like bad/redrawn hands, foreground elements that weren’t working, aborted crowd details, etc. It’s all in there for you to see as I stumble blindly toward a finished piece.
New Project – Design Phase: Characters
I’ve been working on a new project for the past year or so. It’s intended to be another webcomic, released in chapters (or maybe scenes, I don’t know yet). I’m still writing it but I’m getting closer to a place where I can start doing some actual drawing. Here are the very first character sketches.
ISOLA Tree Drawing Process
I draw a lot of trees. ISOLA is pretty much designed so that I can draw lots of trees and animals and not a lot of real-world architecture, vehicles and crowds. So I thought it would be nice to post a video of the tree drawing process.
Iron Man 2099 Cover Process
I was asked to do a variant cover for Marvel’s 2099 Variant Month and the assignment was IRON MAN, which super-excited my kids. Since there was no existing story to go on, I came up with my own. Here’s a video of the process…
Wonder Woman Anniversary – Downloadable Line Art
In 2016 I had the pleasure of writing and drawing a short Wonder Woman story for her 75th Anniversary issue with my pals Brenden Fletcher and Michele Assarasakorn. I thought it would be cool to give you guys the original line art so you can take a stab at colouring them yourself, or just compare them for fun.
Sneak Peek: Chibi ISOLA Characters!
New York Comic-Con is coming up and I wanted to make something cool to have at the table! Inspired by my year in Japan, I decided to translate Olwyn and Rook, the two main characters from ISOLA, into chibi (short & cute) versions of themselves. This year they’ll be on some fun PVC keychains and […]
How To Make Your Panel Lines Look Hand-Drawn
Here’s how you can make your digital lines look like they were drawn by a pen on textured paper and more like they were ruled in by your own imperfect hand.
My Writing Process
I’m pretty new to the craft of writing (formally, anyway). I’ve been immersing myself in the art of story and structure since I was in my teens, so I have a pretty good understanding of the fundamentals, but a lot of my professional writing work has been done by the seat of my pants with […]
ISOLA Issue 9 Cover Speed-Drawing
This cover illustration was actually the drawing for issue 10 (and vice-versa) but we swapped them because it made more sense for the contents of the issue.
