Judge Dredd – Cover Process

Surprise! I was asked to do a cover for the new ‘Best of 2000AD’ series featuring Judge Dredd. I like Dredd but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan. I never read much Dredd outside of the Simon Bisley stuff in those old DC Batman crossovers, but the design is timeless and I appreciate that he’s an icon of British comics and it was a lot of fun to do.

This video is a long one, even though it’s significantly sped up. It covers the entire inking and colouring process and there are lots of mis-steps along the way, like bad/redrawn hands, foreground elements that weren’t working, aborted crowd details, etc. It’s all in there for you to see as I stumble blindly toward a finished piece. 🙂
