A few years ago I was approached by a small film company about possibly producing an animated version of The Abominable Charles Christopher. They asked me to put together a small pitch bible for a series. Here’s what I came up with.

I looked at a bunch of animated pitch bibles online, including stuff from Pendleton Ward and others, just to see what a pitch should look like. It turns out the only real requirements are a short summary of what the series actually is and a breakdown of the main characters, along with a few short episode synopses to give an idea of the story and tone. I decided that that best thing to do was to present it as a comic that would hook people visually before getting into the episode breakdowns. This is as far as I got. I stopped hearing from the production people and it kind of fizzled out.

Maybe I’ll complete the pitch bible one day and send it around, but now is probably not the time; there are a bunch of other abominable-type things in the market (including one with ‘Abominable’ actually in the title) so I don’t think there’s any rush. I’ve got a doc somewhere of possible episodes and mini-plots to play with.

I like re-imagining these things every once in a while. Sometimes I’m inspired by stuff I’m watching or reading. This was inspired somewhat by some of the guest strips other artists have done; it’s always helpful to see your story through someone else’s eyes.
