While building the new TX Store and the new version of the Abominable site, I started toying with ideas for another shirt design. What I came up with was this image. It was done in Adobe Illustrator as an experiment – I wanted to see if Charles Christopher and the rest of the gang could be translated in different art styles while maintaining their personalities. Turns out they can!

I wasn’t crazy about the way it looked on a shirt, though, so I decided to add some more detail and textures in Photoshop and produce the image as a fine art print – something I plan to do more of in the future.

Here’s a closer look at the full piece, as well as some zoom-ins so you can see the detailing in the textures. These are giclée printed on nice, thick 13″x19″ art paper. I’m very happy with them.

I’m doing four covers for the relaunch of Marvel’s new ‘Marvel Kids’ line, featuring Spider-Man! This is fun for a few reasons: first, I’ve never really had an opportunity to draw Spidey professionally (and along with Batman, he’s one of the earliest characters I can remember obsessing over as a child), and second, it’s a reboot of sorts, which means that Peter Parker is an awkward, gangly high school teenager again, and that, to me, is an integral part of the character.
So here’s the first one!
(The next one is full of ninjas – another childhood dream fulfilled)

Inks by Serge LaPointe (of course) and colours by Nadine Thomas, our new studiomate!

I love Frank Miller’s ‘Dark Knight Returns’. It was one of the biggest influences on my artistic growth, along with a LOT of Bill Sienkiewicz and Mike Mignola. This piece is a pin-up I did for the Lille Comics Festival I’m attending this fall. They requested a Batman illustration to use as an exclusive print for the show.
I wanted to evoke Lynn Varley’s washed-out palette so I cranked down the saturation wherever possible – an exception being Robin’s costume. I think brighter colours illustrate her enthusiasm against Batman’s gray grumpiness.

Also, Carrie Kelley is the coolest Robin ever.

For those of you who don’t know, it’s a weekly comic in the style of the old Sunday newspaper strips – large format, colourful comics on a gigantic page!
So for the next twelve weeks, you can follow the adventures of DC’s classic heroes written and drawn by some of the industry’s most talented creators (and me).
I’m drawing and co-writing (with Brenden Fletcher) a Flash story, starring the one and only Barry Allen and a certain, super-intelligent gorilla…

Pick it up on Wednesday and let me know what you think!
